In Memory of Harry Leno

It was with great sadness that we learned of the passing of Harry Leno on July 31st.
Harry served as our Animal Control Officer (ACO) until his retirement in 2006.  He later came back to fill in as ACO for 2 more years.  During that time, we had the pleasure of working with Harry to help the stray, abandoned and surrendered cats and dogs of the Ipswich area.

The Ipswich Humane Group was founded in 1982 and that is when we first met Harry Leno.  We recruited volunteers and collected donation cans to eventually purchase a cat cage and give the ACO relief on weekends.  In 1985 we were able to build a small addition to the dog pound to house cats.  In 2003, the old dog pound was torn down, and the new Ipswich Animal Shelter was built in its place.  During that time Harry worked together with our group to care for the animals at the shelter.

Harry was a very special person. He loved life, people, and animals.  He was thoughtful and caring.  Always thinking of others before himself.  We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with him all those years.  While we are sad that Harry is no longer with us, we know that he has now passed over “The Rainbow Bridge” to be united with all the pets he helped over the years.  Thank you, Harry, from all of us with the Ipswich Humane Group and from all the pets you have saved.

We Need Your Help

Dear Neighbors & Friends,

Many of you know who we are but for those who haven’t yet met us, we are a 100% volunteer run, 100% donation funded, 501(c)(3) non-profit humane organization. Together with Ipswich Animal Control we support the animals at the Ipswich Animal Shelter and find permanent homes for the stray and abandoned cats and dogs of  Ipswich and surrounding towns.  To date we have found forever homes for over 3,000 cats and dogs.

It takes nearly $25,000 a year to take care of these precious animals. Please join us and help ensure that these animals have a comfortable space to live while we search for their forever homes.  Please make a gift today.
